Grouping Faders

Metro lets you group faders, which is great for changing several controller values at once. For instance, say you have three synths that play the same part, but with different sounds (giving you a big layered sound). You could use a fader group to change all their volumes together, instead of dragging three separate faders every time.

To group faders:

1. In the Instruments Mixer window, select an Output by clicking its name, which is just below its fader.

2. Add outputs to the selection by Command-clicking more names (Shift-clicking adds every output between the first and last ones you select).

3. Move the faders for each output to the relative positions at which you want them to start.

4. From the Special menu, choose Output Groupings.

The Group Outputs dialog box appears.

5. Click the Group button to group the selected outputs, and click one of the following choices under the Group button:
   • Click Fade if you want all the grouped faders to move in the same direction. Metro maintains the relative difference in level between each fader as it moves.

   • Click Cross Fade if you want every other fader to move in opposite directions (to make irregular groupings see below).

6. Click OK.

To change the direction of any grouped fader(s):

1. In the Instruments Mixer window, select an Output by clicking its name.

2. Add outputs to the selection by Command-clicking more names.

3. From the Special menu, choose Output Groupings.

The Group Outputs dialog box appears.

4. Click the Set Faders Polarity button and choose one of the following:
   • Positive, if you want the selected faders to move in the same direction as the first fader in the overall group.

   • Negative, if you want the selected faders to move in the opposite direction as the first fader in the overall group.

5. Click OK.
